Playoffs mean longer-term revenue benefits
/The Columbus Dispatch outlines the tangible economic benefits that the playoff run of the Blue Jackets has already seen, but also outlines how the buzz can translate to ticket sales and alternative streams of revenue for years to come.
“The opportunities and upside for any team making the playoffs, regardless of market size, are usually in the following couple of seasons,” said David Carter, principal of the Sports Business Group and executive director of the University of Southern California’s Marshall Sports Business Institute.
“But this can be accelerated if a team has been out of the playoffs for a while because there is now a buzz around the team, and the team has a far more compelling message that it can use to attract fans, sponsors, and others in the short term.”
