Undrafted Bobrovsky caught scout's eye
/Really cool story from The Columbus Dispatch, describing how then-undrafted goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, 21, was 'discovered' in Russian in the spring of 2010.
“This kid must have made 100 saves,” said Ken Hoodikoff, a Russia-based scout with the Philadelphia Flyers. “He’d make a save and be in perfect position. He’d make another save and be right back up again. Then another one. He was everywhere.
“The rest of the guys on this team were god-awful, but he really stood out. And I was just hoping nobody else saw him.”
Bobrovsky will always remember the story.
“I don’t ever forget where I came from,” Bobrovsky said. “It is who I am, and it is inside of me. But I am here now, in Columbus, with the Blue Jackets, and that is where I have to keep my focus.
“When I think about all the things that happened, and how they happened, it’s too big sometimes for me to (comprehend). I’m just so happy and grateful, and I try to play in a way that shows my thanks.”
