Senators' Spezza noncommittal on contract extension
/The Ottawa Sun has the latest round of questions for Senators captain Jason Spezza from Monday's presser, where he responded, "I do," when asked if he wanted to be part of the Senators.
He has one year left on his current contract and an extension could, if he and the team wanted, be signed after July 1. Does he wants those talks to happen right then?
"I'm not sure yet. I have a year left on my deal still there," said Spezza. "This is the day after the season. There's a lot of time to reflect. I'm sure Bryan has to reflect and I have to reflect."
Spezza also answers questions about perceived leadership questions with him as the captain, as well as being the lightning rod in bad times.
"It comes with the territory of playing in a Canadian market," said Spezza. "I'm definitely a target for criticism. I want to be one of the best players and if you want to be one best players you're going to be criticized right or wrong.
"I expect a lot out of myself. I've tried to do a good job over the years of not letting it effect my play. There has been times where it probably has affected me. I'm pretty even keeled as a person."
