LaFontaine remains cryptic on exit from Sabres
/Pat LaFontaine's rather abrupt and unexpected departure from his post as the Buffalo Sabres president of hockey operations remains shrouded in mystery.
His comments Sunday, as relayed via The Buffalo News, did little to shed any light on the situation.
“Listen, I’m really proud of what was accomplished in a short period of time with the Sabres,” LaFontaine said. “I’m excited to go back to the National Hockey League. Whether I was a player or working there, the fans, the people, the City of Buffalo and the people of Western New York will always be a special place for me and my family.
“I’m looking forward to coming back and watching my son play. He’s committed to 2014-15. He’s playing for the Junior Sabres and Michael Peca right now. I’m excited for him. I’m excited to watch him develop and play. He’s really enjoyed it.”
The only slight nugget of information gleaned from LaFontaine's comments was when he was questioned about the chain of command within the organization, which is from where it has been speculated some of the alleged friction arose.
“Those were established, but I really have no other comment."
The whole story was (and remains) bizarre and, in case you missed it, NicholsOnHockey.com chronicled live how the situation unfolded via social media on March 1.
