Zubrus not looking for Cinderella 'nonsense'

The New Jersey Devils know they'll be in tough to make the playoffs this season, potentially needing to win eight of their last nine games - or maybe even all nine.

This blurb is from Fire & Ice Thursday.

Dainius Zubrus said he and Jaromir Jagr were reminiscing about the 2001-02 season when they were teammates on the Washington Capitals. After basically giving up on the season in trading Adam Oates to Philadelphia in a trade deadline beating deal, the Caps picked up 20 out of a possible 26 points in their final 13 games with nine wins, a tie and an overtime loss, and went from well out of the playoff picture to missing by only two points behind Montreal and Jose Theodore.

“That’s the year when Jose Theodore stood on his head and got the Hart Trophy,” Zubrus said. “That’s not a story with a Cinderella ending and nonsense. It’s the real thing. If we keep playing, you never know what happens, so give ourselves a chance. If we try to win the first period tomorrow and then try to win the second, who knows what’s going to happen over the next couple of weeks.”
