Wilson: Sharks 'committed to winning'
/Sharks GM Doug Wilson was on Hockey Central at Noon Wednesday. As usual, the panel covered a vast array of pertinent topics.
"One of the most important things we do is make it be a place players want to play. The only way a player will want to play in a place is if they have a chance to win. The commitment to doing all of the things you mentioned is the number one thing we do.
"When you have the Marleaus and Thorntons resign, or you have the Coutures and Pavelskis give us long term contracts; they know that we're committed to winning and the other thing that happens is young players we either draft or sign, we make sure we give them all the tools they need to succeed and then we have coaches that are trusting enough to put them in when they're ready.
"So that's kind of our formula. We're very fortunate to have a fan base that just loves the game, loves the team, but has very high expectations - which is what we all like."
Wilson was asked about Marleau and Thornton and if they're 'obsessed' with winning a Cup. Great answer given by Wilson, weaving in success in international play.
"Best on best proves they can play with anybody... You want players that are driven by that."
