Barrie glad to help Avs out up front

The Denver Post examines Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie's recent two-game stint as a forward, which revealed something from Barrie's youth. He was primarily a forward growing up, but when he became a little chubby, well, coach did something about it.

“I was a little slower than everybody so I had to move back on D and I worked hard to catch up,” Barrie said.

Barrie, a good team guy willing to do whatever is needed, talked about the 'learning curve' of playing a few games on the wing for the Avs.

"I’m a defenseman, and that’s where I want to be, but anytime the team needs me to do something you have to step in and do your best.”
