Hartley helped change Flames' culture, identity
/The Calgary Sun explains how Bob Hartley has made a compelling case to return behind the bench for the Flames next season, in large part because he has been a key component to helping change the franchise's culture and identity.
Who Brian Burke selects as the team's new GM could potentially impact Hartley's future as the coach, but Hartley is going to direct his team on the ice the same way regardless.
“Me? I've always said it: 'I'm not a survivor.' I don't coach to survive. I coach to win games,” Hartley said during a one-on-one chat last week at the Saddledome.
“I believe that I'm a team guy. I always make decisions for the best of the organization. I never look at myself. I feel as a coach, if you do what's best for your team, it should be what's best for you also.”
Also: “I think, what we're trying to pride ourselves on as a coaching staff is to fast-forward the progression,” Hartley said. “I think that's what the ownership wants, management wants. That's what the fans want. They want to see a playoff team. I coach, players play, to be in the playoffs.”
