Insider Trading
/Darren Dreger, Pierre LeBrun and Bob McKenzie were on Thursday's edition of TSN's Insider Trading.
Dreger: From ownership down, there is a full forensic analysis going on right now with the Edmonton Oilers organizationally.
LeBrun: Jay Feaster explains the Oilers-related tweet.
McKenzie: "Phoenix general manager Don Maloney was not happy with his team. Last Saturday night when the Coyotes lost 3-0 to the Calgary Flames, Don Maloney went to the dressing room, which he doesn't do very often, and really tore a strip off of his players. Said he wasn't happy with the way they were performing. This team was under-performing. They're on course to not make the playoffs. And he suggested that this core could be broken up. That changes could be coming for the Phoenix Coyotes. And he went so far as to tell all the players on the team, 'Anybody here with a limited no-trade clause, I'm contacting your agent tomorrow, and I'm getting a list of teams we can trade you to.' And true to his word, he actually went to the agents for those players and got things. So nothing is imminent now with the Phoenix Coyotes, but a lot of general managers in the National Hockey League are looking because they've got assets people want - Keith Yandle, Antoine Vermette, and down the road maybe Boedker and Hanzal and players like that. So keep an eye on the Coyotes. Nothing imminent at this point, but boy-oh-boy, things could be moving on that front."
Dreger: Coyotes ownership not finalized yet. Could be All-Star break. Not a big concern.
LeBrun: "Well, I don't think the level of anger is the same as what Bob just talked about in Arizona, but I will tell you this: Brian MacLellan in Washington, I think, is ready to move a number of parts. Now, we're not talking Alex Ovechkin or Nicklas Backstrom. Those guys are safe. But certainly a lot of secondary parts, I believe, are in play in Washington because the sense is, 'We've made all these coaching changes year after year, where we get the same results. It's time to change the culture.' Mike Green, obviously, UFA at the end of the year, he would be a prime candidate to move. But a number of other players because I think they just want to get some moving parts and change the feel of that dressing room."
LeBrun: Ilya Bryzgalov will backup Frederik Andersen for the rest of the year. John Gibson, when he's back from injury, will be sent to minors.
