Friedman: NHL teams will come calling for AHL Senators' Richardson
/Elliotte Friedman was on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 on Thursday afternoon.
As part of a larger discussion on the NHL coaching scene:
“There’s a lot of teams that don’t like the idea of – for example, a hot AHL coach or a hot assistant -
“I think a guy whose name you’re going to start to hear as the season progresses for where he’s going to be in the future is going to be Luke Richardson, who is the American Hockey League coach for the Ottawa Senators. At some point in time, someone is going to take a chance on him. And I don’t even know if it’s much of a chance, because I think a lot of people believe he could be a really good coach.
“But nobody likes to give up their guy in the middle of the season. You know, we all know about Jeff Blashill in Detroit. If Babcock goes, he’s got a great chance of being the heir apparent. If somebody else wants him, teams aren’t usually that keen on letting them go during the season. So I think that’s also part of the issue.”
