Friedman: "Glaring" differences between Oilers, Flames
/Elliotte Friedman was on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 on Monday morning.
On comparing the Oilers and Flames:
“If you’re looking at Edmonton and Calgary, I mean, there’s two differences between those two teams. No. 1 is that Calgary is built goaltending, defence out. Right? They’ve appeared to have solved their goaltending issues for now, and their defense is excellent. Edmonton is built with forwards back, and it isn’t working. That’s No. 1.
“And No. 2, I mean, we’ve all talked about this many times, Hartley has done an unbelievable job with the Flames. Like, he’s got them – I think the team takes on the personality of its coach. I think Hartley has done a great job moulding a team that’s got structured attitude and puts the puck in the right places. You know, we were all joking in the game Saturday night – Kelly was sitting there saying, ‘There’s going to come back. They’re going to come back. They have that never-say-die attitude.’ And that’s exactly what’s happened. And I think that’s the difference between the two teams. Calgary does the little things, the smart things that you have to do to win, and Edmonton right now does not.
“And it’s glaring. When you watch both teams in the same room, as we did on Saturday night, on big monitors right next to each other, it is glaring the differences between those two teams and how Calgary does so many things the right way and Edmonton does so many things the wrong way.”
