McKenzie addresses Messier-Oilers report

Bob McKenzie was on TSN 1260 Monday morning.

On a report over the weekend the Oilers were considering Mark Messier in a coaching change:

“I think at some point Mark Messier probably wants to coach in the National Hockey League. I think he’s indicated to people that might be something he’d have some interest in. Whether or not it would have to be in New York, as opposed to back in Edmonton - I don't have any specific knowledge that the Edmonton Oilers were contemplating a change with Dallas Eakins. I think Craig MacTavish has been notably supportive of Dallas Eakins through some pretty tough times, and yet we also knew that this homestand was going to be crucial and that if the Edmonton Oilers had continued to lose games at the rate they were losing, which was close to 100 percent in the first five of the season – if they’d done that on this homestand, all bets were probably off in terms of the pressure mounting to such a level that something would have to give. But fortunately for the Oilers, for Craig MacTavish, for Dallas Eakins, they strung together some wins here and the picture today as opposed to a week ago is much rosier.”
