Dreger: I don't think Boychuk is in play

Darren Dreger was on TSN 1290 Wednesday afternoon.

On if he anticipates any moves with the Bruins or other teams in the next week or two:

“It’s possible. We’ve talked about this before. I mean, you look at the usual suspects. You look at Philadelphia, you look at Chicago, you look at the Boston Bruins. To a degree, the Toronto Maple Leafs might be a team that is interested in shedding some payroll to get a bit more wiggle room, but all say the same thing – they’ve got enough room within that cap to comply.

“Boston absolutely hit a home run, in my opinion, in getting Torey Krug and Reilly Smith signed onto deals that they did as restricted free agents. So they’ve now solidified their lineup. Would Pete Chiarelli prefer to have a bit more space and a bit more wiggle room? Of course he would. And I know that he’s open for business. I don’t believe that Johnny Boychuk is in play anymore. I think that all along, Boston has recognized his value. But when you’re up against it, you’ve got to listen to just about anything. I do think he would trade a defenseman. Bartkowski, McQuaid, someone like that. And maybe a forward.

“So we’ll keep an eye on the Boston Bruins. I think Chicago for the most part will sit quiet. And Dave Nonis is one of those managers who always listens as well, but seldom makes anything happen, particularly at this time of the year.”
