Dreger on Oilers' interest in Raanta, Fucale

Darren Dreger was on Edmonton’s TSN 1260 on Tuesday morning.

On the Edmonton Oilers:

“Draft is turning into a far more exciting opportunity for these general managers than the deadline because there is financial freedom. There is a willingness among teams to change the look of their club, so the appetite for change is a lot stronger than it is with a gun to your head at the deadline. But I think that market can get overwhelmed as well.

“So if the Oilers are looking for a goalie - and we know that they are - and they’re absolutely convinced they’re going to land him at the draft, that too is a gamble. It’s a gamble.

“I know the Oilers had interest in Antti Raanta from the Chicago Blackhawks and I was told they were after Fucale from the Montreal Canadiens. But I’m not sure if that was the case or not.

“But it’s treading into dangerous waters. And it’s not just Edmonton. It’s Toronto. It’s a lot of teams with assets to move and a laundry list of needs to go into the off-season and onto the draft floor and have to do all of your shopping there. That’s complicated.”
